Course
Testimonials
“Studying under Marilena was an incredibly interactive experience. Her supportive approach to guiding us through our own teaching moments truly set her apart as an exceptional instructor. Our course assignments that required teaching course material to the rest of the class through game-based learning were unexpectedly rewarding. Taking the course “Digital Communication, Culture, and Society” with Marilena is what inspired me to pursue teaching myself.
– Christina Kyriakou (PhD Candidate in Marketing, Innovation and Entrepreneurship)
“Marilena’s approach to teaching is precise and to the point; no wasting time on unnecessary facts or elements that I’ll never use. Not only that, but it is also extremely enjoyable. Her “Web English!” class didn’t really seem like a class, but more of a meet-up with a friend; in the best way possible. She was knowledgeable and kept up with every new trend and tool that came up; which is not easy to do. The fact that it’s been over 10 years since I took her course and I still remember it, just goes to show that it left a positive impact on me.”
– Damien Heraclides (cinematographer/video editor)
“It was nice to have a lecturer who is a little bit stricter (but in a good way), who can lead discussion and control the class at the same time. I really enjoyed talking freely and without judgement in her class “Gender and Communication” about topics like sexuality and feminism. I am from a country where these topics are still taboo so it felt great to discuss these things casually and openly while at the same time learning new vocabulary and concepts. With this lecturer, you should be ready to change your mindset. Also, you will need to write a lot. I took Marilena’s gender course because it seemed interesting and I was completely right.”
– Benita Langvinytė (business and entrepreneurship student)
“Marilena stands out as one of the most exceptional professors I've had the pleasure of learning from. Not only is she a strong and inspiring woman, but her vibrant presence and unwavering attention to her students make time pass effortlessly in her classes. I recommend her without reservation.”
– Marina Nasr (marketing manager)
“Dr. Zackheos is a trailblazing educator who puts passion and academic prowess into providing her students with a foundation for their own theorizing. She saw the individual in each of us and encouraged class debates with diverse, often competing, viewpoints, enhancing thus the course experience. Her fairness and creativity fascinated me. I also have fond memories of her sense of humour. Most importantly, her “Newswriting” and “Gender and Media” courses had great impact on my academic and philosophical growth. I have carried what I learned from her teaching of Freud and Foucault now into my Master’s thesis.”
– Maria Larkin (digital media researcher)
“Being a student of Marilena's was an honour. Three years have passed since I took “Gender and Communication” with her and I can still recall all that she instructed us. Not only does her approach to teaching inspire a true enthusiasm for the topic at hand, but she also possesses a really cool way of ensuring that the things you learn will stay with you for the rest of your life. My one and only regret is that I was not able to enrol in more than one of her classes. I would strongly recommend her classes to anyone interested in learning in enjoyable and memorable ways.”
– Elpida Stylianou (multimedia and graphic designer)
“Dr. Zackheos's classes were engaging and challenging with novel methods of encouraging collaborative learning under the guidelines of a well-structured course. Students for instance graded each other's work in her “Newswriting” course and taught class material through presentations in her Master’s course “Digital Communications, Culture and Society.” She also promoted a welcoming class environment with free-form discussions.”
– Abdulla Naser (videographer and researcher in media studies)

– Pavlina Stylianou (social media manager)
“My experience in Marilena’s “Digital Communication, Culture, and Society” class was genuinely one of the most exciting ones I’ve had during my Master's degree. Her approach of introducing a new topic every week, followed by a brief recap and student-led presentations with debates, created an engaging learning environment. It never felt like a traditional class but rather a dynamic exchange of ideas. Her kindness and support made a significant difference. She ensured that we not only understood the material but also felt empowered to present ideas, pose questions, and critically engage with our thoughts.”
– Rajwa Karadsheh (digital marketing associate)

– Romy Azar (communications and mass media student)
“I was fortunate enough to have Marilena Zackheos as one of my professors! “Gender and Communication” became quickly one of my favorite courses as Marilena always made it interesting and easy to understand. The small tests we had throughout the semester gave us a good understanding of the class material and made the final exam easy. Her charisma and fun way of teaching made this course memorable alongside the personal assistance she always was willing to give us in her own time! (As a side note, I couldn’t wait to have her amazing treats she shared with us during lecture! I still dream about them!). Personally, I’m very thankful about what she taught me but also how she helped me grow as an individual, look at things with a different perspective, understand people more and be more empathetic!”

“Marilena’s approach to teaching is unlike any other I’ve experienced. She understood things about me that I had yet to discover, and used that to help me flourish both in her ‘News Writing’ course and in my personal pursuits. Marilena has undeniable talent for unlocking people’s potential and motivating her students to achieve a level of excellence that they themselves would have not thought possible.”
